Thursday, December 06, 2012:
Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power player has undertaken several initiatives to promote and ensure safety as part of its ‘Jan Jagruti Abhiyaan’ Initiative. This initiative is focused on electrical safety education for people in the vicinity of high voltage transmission (HT) lines in Mumbai. This year, Tata Power’s transmission team have been conducting these Safety sensitization session through a number of street plays on ‘safe’ living in these areas.

The first three shows of these street plays were performed at Laxmi Baug and Naik Nagar in Dharavi, Mumbai which received a great response from the residents. Approximately 250 people have been educated so far under the Jan Jagruti Abhiyan. The Street plays will also be held at Wadala, Malvani, Mumbra, Mankhurd and other sensitive areas in the coming period on weekly basis.
Speaking on the initiative, Mr. Vijay Chourey, Head – Transmission, Mumbai Operations, Tata Power said, “The objective is to spread this message amongst as many citizens as possible to reduce the electrical accidents that can be caused while living in areas which are close to high voltage transmission lines. We at Tata Power are not only concerned about our employees’ safety but also understand that a lot of people live dangerously close to transmission lines and are prone to such accidents. We hope that our simple street plays will help the residents in staying safe and prevent untoward incidents/accidents.”
Jan Jagruti Abhiyaan is aimed at increasing awareness amongst citizens on the hazards of carrying out unauthorized activity under/in vicinity of H T Lines. These sessions include a presentation and a short film on the hazards of unauthorized construction of structures, flying kites, TV cable stringing, drying clothes etc under/in vicinity of H T lines and Do’s and Don’ts.
