With the explosive growth of data and network traffic, there is a critical and growing need for more computational efficiencies. OEMs must provide higher performance, while using less space, consuming far less power, and providing more agility to dynamically implement features in ever decreasing development cycles. The TILE-Gx processor family, powered by the MDE 4.1 release, is solving these customer problems and shipping in volume production across a variety of applications including:
Intelligent networking solutions Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) Application Delivery Controllers (ADC) Next generation firewall appliances WAN optimization appliances Routers data-plane processing Software Defined Networks (SDN) Video collaboration Data-mining and forensics
"With the MDE 4.1, we are providing customers with the industry's best tools and most familiar and standard programming models. Our customers leverage the performance, power, and space benefits of the TILE-Gx processors and do so with fewer, more readily available, engineering resources," said Michael Zimmerman, vice president of marketing at Tilera. "In the embedded market, customers are moving away from fixed function SoCs and difficult to program devices such as FPGAs, DSPs and NPUs and are widely adopting the TILE-Gx processors. Similarly, in the datacenter market, the TILE-Gx is being used to maximize performance, while reducing the total cost of ownership."
"Tilera's MDE is a complete Linux environment which any software engineer can use right out of the box. At APX, we run hundreds of C/C++ and Java applications unmodified using Tilera's MDE and the TILE-Gx," said John Martellaro, CTO at APX Labs. "Our AnchorPoint product is a real-time platform that connects mobile users, smart glasses, sensors, machines and applications together. Mission critical scenarios use AnchorPoint for biometrics, device automation, surveillance, and data analytics. When combined with Tilera's MDE and the TILE-Gx, AnchorPoint gives our customers the most advanced, high-performance, real-time software framework running on the highest performance-per-watt-per-square inch hardware platform on the market today."
The Tilera MDE provides a comprehensive software environment including:
Linux: kernel 2.6.40 (3.0) Open source libraries: binutil, glibc, and 3800+ CentOS 6.3 RPMs GCC: 4.4 and 4.6 cross and native compilers with support for 32 and 64-bit libraries Open source tools: gdb, oprofile, mudflap, perf-events, valgrind, and eclipse Java: openJDK 1.6 and hotspot server JIT TILE-Gx optimized libraries for mPIPE, MiCA, TRIO, USB, and other SoC components
The MDE 4.1 release is available now. For more information, please visit: http://www.tilera.com/development_tools.
