Friday, November 16, 2012 Polycom, Inc.(Nasdaq: PLCM), the global leader in open standards-based unified communications and collaboration (UC&C),today announced that CJ Group in South Korea has selected Polycom® Real Presence™ Mobile 2.0 for its UC&C project designed to enhance the company’s collaboration capabilities and create a more flexible work environment among group subsidiaries’ branch offices in Korea and abroad. With mobile video powered by Polycom, employees can communicate and collaborate instantly with any employee, anywhere and anytime, whether in the office or on the go.

CJ Group is recognized as an ever-changing life and culture company, providing products and services across several business sectors in Food & Food Service, Bio, Pharmaceutical, Entertainment Media, Home Shopping & Logistics. CJ Group operates a number of subsidiaries across CJ Corporation, its holding company, and has over 26 offices located across Korea and 76 additional offices worldwide.

With Polycom Real Presence Mobile 2.0, users can take secure, high-definition (HD) video collaboration beyond the conference room to anywhere using their tablets and smartphones (iOS and Android) and, regardless of location, easily connect with other standards-based video systems. The software application was selected by CJ Group as an enhancement to its existing video conferencing solution. CJ Group has long been a user and advocate of Polycom video collaboration solutions, first installing Polycom® RealPresence™ Desktop on 100 desktops and Polycom® RealPresence™ Room solutions in 2008 to drive rapid communications among domestic and foreign branch offices in a fast-paced global environment.

CJ Group, with the addition of RealPresence Mobile 2.0, is moving closer to its goal of building a ‘SmartWork’ culture to improve mobile worker productivity and drive communications beyond the conference room and office. Together with CJ Systems, a professional IT service provider, CJ Group delivered comprehensive Polycom video solutions that integrate functions commonly used daily in the workplace into one seamless collaboration experience, from the telephone to mobile devices, email, groupware and video conferencing. The video solution today is used for everything from daily meetings and reports, to internal training and HR interviews, in addition to project discussions with participants in the company’s remote production sites. Video has become the norm for communications within the company, with employees averaging in excess of 500 hours of video calls per month. Currently, CJ Group has over 440 Polycom units, spread across over 100 offices locally and abroad.

Key requirements for the project included a secure and stable system with maximum user convenience, interoperability with existing legacy systems, and high scalability. To that end, the complete solution is powered by the Polycom® RealPresence™ Platform– the most comprehensive and interoperable software infrastructure for universal HD video collaboration –which provides robust provisioning, management, scalability, reliability, and security. The Real Presence Platform’s unsurpassed support for interoperability transforms islands of employees and fragmented communications systems into a seamless video enterprise, which makes enterprise-grade video easily and securely accessible to all authorized personnel whether they're mobile, remote, or on-site. In early October, Polycom announced powerful enhancements to the RealPresence™ Platform, including the industry’s first open standards-based SVC (Scalable Video Coding), with 3X HD multipoint video call capacity for greater scalability, dramatically lower TCO, superior performance, and backwards- and forwards-compatibility to protect customer investments. Polycom also recently introduced a rich new suite of open APIs that facilitate the development of custom applications and extend the value of the Real Presence Platform.

“CJ Group employees feel at ease using Polycom video collaboration solutions, whether at their desks, in a meeting room, or on the go on their mobile devices. This not only improves work efficiency and reduces costs; it also leads to the creation of a smart and flexible corporate culture. As CJ Group’s business expands, the company plans to continue to expand our current video solution and Polycom is the optimum partner for this project,” said Sang-cheon Ryu, Department Head, CJ Systems.

CJ Group expects users, who are already familiar with Polycom’s user interface, will be able to use the RealPresence Mobile 2.0 application with ease. Polycom recently announced a new user interface (UX) that delivers the industry’s best video collaboration experience, including a simple but powerful user interface that is visually and functionally consistent across Polycom’s next-generation video collaboration solutions. In addition, patent-pending Polycom® Smart Pairing™ technology built into RealPresence™ Mobile 2.0, wirelessly connects Apple iPads to enhanced HDX series solutions (including room-based systems), letting users control video meetings with their tablets and transfer a live video call from their tablet to a big screen with the swipe of a finger.

The executives of CJ Group’s subsidiaries are actively using the video solutions on desktops and mobile environments, leading the way to improving meetings across their respective business units. In fact, CJ Cheil Jedang, a subsidiary of CJ Group, holds regular research/production meetings among the headquarters, research centers, and production sites abroad in Brazil, Indonesia, and China via video, reducing the cost of its international business trips by 34% compared to the same period the previous year. Monthly management meetings among key executives in Korea and the head of branch offices abroad (Southeast Asia, America, and China) are also held via video. By enabling users to connect with foreign branch offices via mobile video using tablets and smartphones, the company is maximizing workplace efficiency, and their current video investments. To date, CJ Group as a whole has reduced costs for business trips by about 25% annually, saving $USD2.6 billion annually (as of June 2009).

“For companies operating globally to be more competitive, it is essential to improve the corporate meeting culture to allow quick decision making, reduce operating costs, and improve teamwork. Polycom will continuously support CJ Group to ensure the success of its unified communications and collaboration project with Polycom’s innovative video collaboration solutions such as our mobile video application that lets customers take secure, HD video meetings on the go,” said Dae-jun Shin, Country Manager, Polycom Korea.
